Bedford, QC, is a town in Quebec’s Eastern Townships (Cantons l’est), south of Montreal but before the U.S. border with Vermont. It’s easy to get to and is a bit more than an hour’s drive away: Directions

A bonus is if you drive down to Bedford, you can usually fill up with cheaper gas for the trip home. And why would you want to go to Bedford? For it’s 181st annual country fair. Their website is under construction so there’s not a lot of info, but you may want to check it out anyway.

Watching Montreal Area Gas Prices

August 2, 2009 by
Filed under A Tank of Gas...

One of the greatest mysteries of life in Quebec is how the gas prices go up – and occasionally – go down.

The Canadian Automobile Association (CAA) as a website, in French, that shows you what the average “acceptable” price should be in your region. If you go to Info Essence, you can choose the area you’re interested in and you will be given the estimated price.

When I checked it today though, the CAA realistic price and the price at the pump down the street were 10 cents apart. Guess which was higher?

A Tank of Gas…

We’re starting a new feature here at Montreal on the Cheap called, A Tank of Gas…

xchng_676552_gas_2This section will feature fun, inexpensive things Montrealers can do on one tank of gas. It could be an event in Ottawa, Ontario, the Eastern Townships or the Laurentians – or maybe just off the island in places like Ormstown or Beloeil.

If you have any suggestions for the new feature, please feel free to send them in. Everyone will be credited unless requested otherwise.

So, watch out for things to do with a tank of gas – or less.
