The season started last week, on May 23, and runs through to October 3, 2010. Sundays from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.

“Love and Laughter”

The Yellow Door Choir and Paul Ash invite Montrealers to join them on a comical, musical exploration of the serious, yet funny, subject of love.

The members of the Yellow Door Choir use their talents to raise money and awareness for socially conscious organizations. Now in its 27th year, the choir is taking on love in all its beguiling, romantic, playful, sacred complexity and asks the question Why Do Fools Fall in Love?

PAUL ASH adds his unique comic twist to the performance, exploring the inside and underside of the choir’s reflections on love. Paul is originally from Nova Scotia and has been instrumental in developing Halifax’s burgeoning comedy scene. Settled now in Montreal, Paul has been closely associated with the Just for Laughs festival for more than ten years. He is a talented comedian, writer and actor and has appeared in several films and TV shows, including Showcase’s Trailer Park Boys.

The choir’s director, ELEANOR STUBLEY, has selected a program that expresses many facets of human love and our responses to it: romance in George Shearing’s jazzy tongue-in-cheek musical commentary on Shakespeare’s Sigh No More Ladies; inspiration in I Could Write a Book, from the 1940 Rodgers and Hart musical Pal Joey; longing in Jonathan Quick’s arrangement of Loch Lomond. An Indonesian folk song advises caution in young lovers lured by the scent of blossoms carried on the wind, and in a rollicking song from Newfoundland, all caution is thrown to the wind by young Sally with that Feller From Fortune. Inspired by the Song of Solomon, Set Me As a Seal by René Clausen affirms the strength and undying nature of love. It’s fair to say that with Paul Ash in the house, the combination of music and laughter will leave no one broken-hearted.

Proceeds from the concerts will go to the National Educational Association of Disabled Students (NEADS). Its members include students with disabilities, educators, organizations and professional service providers. All thirteen provinces and territories are represented on its board of directors. NEADS is a cross-disability organization that supports students’ transition to and participation in postsecondary education and the workforce through programs, resources, disability awareness and research. The money raised will go towards scholarship funds to allow students to attend conferences.

Burton Street Cabaret

The Burton Street Singers are hosting and performing at a cabaret night to raise funds for Haiti relief efforts and other projects of St. Thomas Church. This evening of variety costs only $10 ($7.00 in advance and for children 12 and under) and features seasoned Montreal talent. Drinks and snacks will be sold.

There are two performances, both on Saturday, March 13:

• a matinée for a young audience at 2:00 pm,

• an evening show for the general public at 8:00 pm.

Admission for the matinée is $5 for children aged 2 to 12 and $15 for those 13 and over, including adults. Admission is $20 for the 8:00 pm performance.

Digital Album Release – February 15th

hello all,

I am happy to announce that in one week, February 15th, my new album ‘Bouquet of Might & Fury’ will be released on Proxenett Records!

Since the way in which people consume music these days has mostly shifted into a virtual realm, we thought we would hoist the sails and ship the album right into your media players by way of digital download. In this format, we would like to offer the entire album as well as a bundle of my drawings and scribblings that include lyrics and liner notes all for a mere minimum of 5$ – though generous donations are most appreciated : )

And for your tangible senses, we have put together a limited number of very crafty CD packages that were hand-made with lovely recycled card stock and a 500 year old letter press. Very nice these are I must say. CD’s will sell for 10$ and will be available online and at live shows only – keep in mind that ‘limited’ is the operative word here folks.

To celebrate the launch, I will be playing an album release party with my band and the Liederwolfe Opera Collective on Thursday, February 25th, at my favorite Montreal venue La Sala Rossa. Please attend and invte your friends as this is a free event for all. Details below:
