River surfing in Montreal – fun!

    June 16, 2011 by

Have you ever thought of river surfing? I’ve heard that Montreal is one of the best spots for river surfing. Although it’s similar to ocean surfing, it’s different enough to be a challenge.

The cost is really getting the equipment you need, but if you don’t have equipment and want to give surfing a try, you can always go to Mountain Equipment Co-op to rent one.

To learn more about other places to rent equipment and the places to surf, check out Surf Montreal, where there’s a ton of information for the surfing amateur to the enthusiast.

Bixi Bikes Are Back for the 2011 Season, deals for bike, bus & communauto, as well

    April 28, 2011 by

The wildly successful Bixi Bikes are back in Montreal and the network has expanded west. There are now four stations in NDG as well as many other places.

For those who don’t know what Bixi bikes are, they are community bikes that can be picked up and dropped off at various stations throughout the city. That way, if it’s rainy in the morning on the way to work, you can take the bus or metro, but if it’s beautiful on the way home, you can bike home with a Bixi.

You can use it on a one-of basis or you can get a subscription. And, you can buy gift subscriptions for others as well.

Now, the Bixi/Communauto deals work like this:

    BIXI-CAR-BUS package, $59 credit

You’re a subscriber to Communauto’s auto+bus DUO? Take advantage of a credit on your Communauto account, equal to $59 of the cost (taxes included) of your 1-year BIXI subscription.

The Car-Bus package, from Communauto car-sharing organization, allows those who are simultaneously Communauto and Société de Transport de Montréal (STM) annual members to benefit from a reduced rate when they rent a vehicle with Communauto. By signing up for the Car-Bus package, you have the choice of registering either as a Communauto “member” or “non member”. As a member, you will save $3 per month on your annual Communauto membership fee, while if you are a non member, the $500 mandatory non-refundable sign-up fee will be waived. For additional information, please visit www.communauto.com

    and

    BIXI-CAR package, $10 credit

Are you a regular subscriber to Communauto (packages A, B, C or Le Lièvre)? Take advantage of a $10 credit on your Communauto account when you purchase a 1-year BIXI subscription.

Keep Track of Montreal Rinks, Winter 2010/11

    January 24, 2011 by

If you like skating outside but don’t like arriving at the rink to find the ice isn’t usable, take a look at this free service website that keeps track of Montreal outdoor skating rinks: patinermontreal.ca.

Part of Montreal fun in the winter is taking advantage of what the weather has to offer. If it’s cold, we might as well ski or skate – after all, it’s a long winter for many of us. Have a look. This site is part of what Montreal activities and fun is all about: Montrealers helping Montrealers.
