What do Egyptian figures, Montréal buildings and Place des Arts have in common? In his work entitled Comme si le temps… de la rue, Pierre Granche skilfully combines a variety of subjects, objects and symbols.

In the activity Pillars of Strength, participants will be asked to create a collage made up of visual elements borrowed from Egyptian culture, urban design, Montréal architecture and botany.

WALLS AWASH
October 7 to November 27, 2011

Inspired by an installation on view in the exhibition The Work Ahead of Us. The 2011 Québec Triennial, we will paint a huge mural in India ink and wash: the workshop walls will be filled with a vast array of lines, graphics and forms evoking an immense, phantasmagorical landscape. Be prepared for fun, discovery and experimentation. Bring your camera so you can document your participation in this mega-project!

ABSTRACTION IN ACTION: BORDUAS
March 9 to April 8, 2012

After observing Paul-Émile Borduas’s 1945 work titled Palette d’artiste surréaliste ou 3.45, on display in the exhibition A Matter of Abstraction, you will use a brush to paint abstract images made up of a tangle of expressively coloured forms.

ABSTRACTION IN ACTION: RIOPELLE
April 13 to May 20, 2012

Taking inspiration from Jean Paul Riopelle’s, Landing, 1949, presented in the exhibition A Matter of Abstraction, participants will wield spatulas as they paint abstract images through spontaneous gestures and dazzling colours.

ANIMALS UNCAGED
May 25 to June 29, 2012

The works in the exhibition Zoo will provide the inspiration for a bestiary created, in relief, out of fantastical and fanciful animals in two and three dimensions.

This coming Museums Day, join in creating a collective mural. A wonderful way for grandparents and grandchildren to spend some special time together:

Every Sunday, Pointe-à-Callière invites grandparents to visit the Museum along with their grandchildren. For the occasion, free admission is offered to grandparents (65 years and older, upon presentation of proper identification), as well as to grandchildren (under the age of 18). And at all times, on a grandparent’s or grandchild’s birthday, admission to the Museum is free for both when they come to the Museum together.

The Board of Montreal Museum Directors (BMMD) is celebrating its 25th anniversary and invites the public for the 25th Montreal Museum Day (MMD) on Sunday, May 29, 2011. Presented by Quebecor, in collaboration with the Société de transport de Montréal, the 2011 edition of the MDD will highlight and celebrate 25 years of complicity between Museums and Montrealers with a big party at the promenade des Artistes du Quartier des spectacles and in the 32 museums that are offering free admission to the public from 9 am to 6 pm.

To celebrate its 90th anniversary, the McCord museum presents 90 treasures, 90 stories, 90 years, an exhibition that brings together a wide range of fascinating artefacts, photos, costumes and ethnological objects. Entry in to the museum is free for children 12 and under and only 15.00 for adults instead of the usual 20.00 during this period.

Activities include In the Emperer’s Footsteps, a game to discover archeological treasures.

Starting March 2, from 1 to 4 pm, children can create their own soldiers on a badge and from 1:15 to 2:30 pm, they can learn about Chinese painting and calligraphy.

On March 5 and 6, there will be a Lion Dance and Traditional Kung Fu performance with sabres and spears, at 11:30 on the 5th and 2 pm on the 6.

Every weekend during January and February of 2011, the price of admission will drop by a percentage equal to the temperature below zero. Here is how they explain it:

Every weekend in the months of January and February, the Museum is reducing the price of admission by a percentage equal to the subzero temperature recorded that morning*. For example, if the mercury dips to -20° C, visitors will benefit from a 20% discount on each Museum admission ticket.

*The temperature is recorded at 10 a.m. that morning and does not include the wind chill factor. This promotion cannot be combined with any other offer.

So, the colder it is, the better a deal it is.
