Canadian Centre for Architecture – Free Admission Thursday evenings

Thursday evenings, from 5:30 pm to closing, the Canadian Centre for Architecture is free of charge to visitors.

The usual fees are very reasonable if you’d like to visit at other times:

Adults: $10
Seniors (65 and over): $7
Students: free
Children: free
Persons with limited mobility: free

The museum is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays

Open:

Wednesday to Sunday, 11 am to 6 pm
Thursday, 11 am to 9 pm

If you love going to see contemporary art or just want to check it out to see what it’s all about, the Montreal Museum of Contemporary Art is free on Wednesday evenings from 5pm to 9 pm.

The admission fee all other times is pretty reasonable too:

$10 adults
$8 seniors (aged 60 and over)
$6 students (aged 30 and under with student I.D.)
$20 family package (maximum 4 persons including at least 1 adult with adolescents aged 12 to 17).
Free admission for children under 12 and members of the Musée.

Wired to the MAC card for $15
Unlimited admission to the Musée all year long and to our Musée Nocturnes on the first Friday evening of every month.
Avalaible at the museum ticket counter.

Sunday Discovery Workshops Are Back: Redpath Museum, Fall 2011 Schedule

Looking for something different to do with the children on Sunday afternoons? The Redpath Museum may have the solution. Their Sunday Discovery Workshops are available in English or French, depending on the week. All workshops include a hands-on craft.

Cost:

7.00 per child, free for parents

Registration:

Places are limited, so advance registration by mail is recommended. Simply print the second page of the programme (pdf) and return it with your payment. Alternately, you can call the museum week before the workshop and leave a message on 514-398-4092.

When:

The workshops are on Sunday afternoons from 11:30 to 12:30 or 1 pm to 2 pm or 2:30 to 3:30

Looking for something entertaining and educational for your family? Here’s a weekly series for you at the McGill University’s Redpath Museum.

The Museum is open on Sunday afternoons for visits by individuals or families. Sunday afternoons are also a special time, because we offer family workshops where young children can be introduced to science in a relaxed and informal atmosphere.

There are three sessions every Sunday for ALL ages.
12h30 – 13h30 OR 14h – 15h OR 15h30 – 16h30
Children : 6 $ each, FREE for parents.

John Lennon fans: Free art exhibit, 1969 Queen Elizabeth Hotel Bed-in

If you’re a John Lennon or Yoko Ono fan, you may be interested in the latest free exhibit at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.

What: To celebrate 40 years since the famous bed-in for peace, an exhibit called Imagine: The Peace Ballad of John & Yoko. John Lennon and Yoko Ono checked into Montreal’s Queen Elizabeth Hotel at midnight on May 26, 1969 (hey! that’s my birthday, but not the year). The exhibit is showing over 100 works of art (drawings, videos and artwork).

When: Starting this coming Thursday, April 2nd until June 21. 2009.

Montreal Museum Day, May 31, 2009 – Free admission to 30 museums!

If you like to visit museums but have trouble deciding which to visit and where to go, circle May 31, 2009 on your calendar. That’s the day for Montreal’s annual free museum day. Not only do you have access to 30 museums across the city for free, there are six bus routes to take you from museum to museum. Even better – the buses are free too.

McCord Museum free entry first Saturday A.M. of each month

Thanks to Joyce, another new reader, I now know that the McCord Museum has free entry once a month.

When: The first Saturday of each month, before noon. You don’t have to leave before noon, just get there before.

Where: McCord Museum, 690 Sherbrooke St. W, Montreal, 514-398-7100

Joyce tells me she arrives in the late morning and then spends a couple of hours wandering around. What a nice way to spend a Saturday morning sometimes.
