Montreal on the Cheap Survey – open until December 21, 2011.

Over the past couple of years, MOTC has seen big growth in readership. Statistics are good and it is an increasingly popular site. However, without feedback from visitors, it is difficult to tell if we are striking the right chord. Some parts of the site, such as gathering the daily deal posts, are rather time-consuming, while others can be posted very quickly.

With this in mind, I would like to ask MOTC visitors and fans to complete a quick 10-question survey that will give us a better idea of what people think about the site. Using these answers, we may be able to fine tune things so we attract more readers – and maybe a sponsor or two! If you would like to leave extra comments, please feel free to do so at the bottom of this post. The survey will be up until the end of day December 21, 2011. Thank you.

Looking for New Year’s Eve Events and Activities

November 30, 2011 by

Are you looking for something to do this New Year’s Eve? Do you know of any events or activities that will be going on? Are these events free or priced for the budget minded Montrealer?

I am looking for free and inexpensive New Year’s Eve (and Day) events to post here at Montreal On The Cheap.

I run this website alone and could really use the help. Some of you have contacted me for various reasons over the past couple of years and know that MOTC is not an income-generating site. I get no payment from posts that inform you about some of the free and cheap things to do around Montreal. Some PR people send me their information and if it fits the MOTC mandate, I post it. Other information I find by surfing around, checking event sites, as well as other Montreal sites. But I also rely on others sharing their tips. Some readers have sent me  great ideas for the site – but the more the better! If you know of something happening on New Year’s Eve that you’d like to share, maybe we can put together an awesome list that would rival any other Montreal fun website.

You can leave the information as a response here, or you can email me at marijke @ montrealonthecheap.com. Let me know if you want me to mention your name or if you would prefer that I not.

Thanks!

Marijke Vroomen Durning

Sweetbabydealz.com Launch in NDG, Nov. 1, 2011

I received an email from two moms who have started up a new website for parents: Sweetbabydealz.com. Sounds like a fun event and a great way to learn about the new site:

As two Montreal moms, founders Carine Sroujian and Jackie Iannotti decided to embark on a mompreneurial adventure to offer Canadian moms great deals on quality mom and baby products. Jumping on the growing deal site trend, once a week, sweetbabydealz will offer a product for moms and babies at a discount while quantities last.
Who:  Sweetbabydealz.com, the first bilingual Canadian deal site for quality mom & baby products. Founders Carine Sroujian and Jackie Iannotti will be available for interviews and photos.

What: The event will feature: mom & baby photo booth, goody bags, prizes, snacks and more.

Where:  Melons et Clémentines – 5659 Sherbrooke W., Montreal, Qc.

When:  Tuesday, November 1, 2011 -  11:00 am to 1:00 pm

“As moms, we understand how difficult and time-consuming it can be to navigate through the clutter of mom and baby products to find quality items at great prices,” says Carine. “We really felt like there was a gap in the Canadian, and more specifically the Quebec market, within this niche and put the wheels in motion to fill the need that many moms like us have.”

Having spent their career in marketing, PR, and brand and project management, both moms were on maternity leave when they were inspired by their little ones to embark on a project of their own and become mompreneurs.

“It’s difficult at times to find balance in your life between your career, family and other responsibilities.” says Jackie. “Carine and I found that we had the same goals in life: to achieve that balance and be able to manage our own schedules and spend more quality time with our families. This lead us to tag team on this lifelong dream and make it a reality.”

Reminder: Deux Montagnes Lions Club 8th Annual Giant Book Fair – Oct. 22 & 23, 2011.

October 18, 2011 by

Here’s a great opportunity to stock up on some reading. Here is a note I received about this giant book fair. Happy reading!

The Lions Club has been collecting books since April and will have a gauranteed minimum of 20,000 books!

The Book fair is put on by the Deux Montagnes Lions club, in order to finance our activities.
The fair is held on October 22nd and 23rd from 9:00 to 4:00 at the Salle de Veterans formerly known as the Canadian Legion Building on 141 Grand Moulin, Deux Montagnes. This street is just off Chemin Oka, Rte 344.
We will have in excess of  20.000 books, all classified in the various categories normally found in a large book store, both in English and French for people of all ages.

Prices are very reasonable: 50 cents for a pocket book, $ 1,50  for hard covers and large soft covers. Children’s books are 4 for a $ 1.00, and we have a very large selection in this category. All books are in good condition. In addition there will also be a table for Arts and
collectibles at reasonable prices.

This is an excellent opportunity to stock up for Winter reading at rock bottom prices, and to top it all off, the proceeds go to a good cause.
Coffee, Tea and snacks will be served. For information call Betty or Martin Hensen at 450-473-1932, or Dave Byers at 514-602-7054. Dealers welcome.
