Deux Montagnes Lions Club 8th Annual Giant Book Fair – Oct. 22 & 23, 2011.

September 26, 2011 by

Here’s a great opportunity to stock up on some reading. Here is a note I received about this giant book fair. Happy reading!

The Lions Club has been collecting books since April and will have a gauranteed minimum of 20,000 books!

The Book fair is put on by the Deux Montagnes Lions club, in order to finance our activities.
The fair is held on October 22nd and 23rd from 9:00 to 4:00 at the Salle de Veterans formerly known as the Canadian Legion Building on 141 Grand Moulin, Deux Montagnes. This street is just off Chemin Oka, Rte 344.
We will have in excess of  20.000 books, all classified in the various categories normally found in a large book store, both in English and French for people of all ages.

Prices are very reasonable: 50 cents for a pocket book, $ 1,50  for hard covers and large soft covers. Children’s books are 4 for a $ 1.00, and we have a very large selection in this category. All books are in good condition. In addition there will also be a table for Arts and
collectibles at reasonable prices.

This is an excellent opportunity to stock up for Winter reading at rock bottom prices, and to top it all off, the proceeds go to a good cause.
Coffee, Tea and snacks will be served. For information call Betty or Martin Hensen at 450-473-1932, or Dave Byers at 514-602-7054. Dealers welcome.

Free $50 Gas Card for Test Driving a Mazda – Until Aug. 31, 2011.

August 25, 2011 by

There’s not a lot of time left in this deal, but you have until August 31, 2011. Test drive a Mazda during the Mazda Clearance Event and you’ll receive a 50.00 gas card.

You have to fill out and submit a registration form, print your confirmation email and present it to your local Mazda dealer.

If you are unable to print, simply write the code down and bring it with you and go for your test drive. Of course, your dealer may need more information from you as they would like to sell you a car. And who knows? You may just find one that you have to have.

More Used Book Sales, August 2011

July 28, 2011 by

I have to thank Michael Black for this wealth of book sale information. He tacked it onto the Cummings Centre sale as a comment, but it deserves a post all its own. Thank Michael:

Given that St. Viateur will be closed on Saturday July 30th or the stores to have a sidewalk sale and various non-commercial events can take place, I’d expect Welch’s to have tables out full of $1.00 books. It’s like a feeding frenzy each time they bring out a new box of books to restock. I’ve never figured out why they have the books, I’ve found lots of things that they wouldn’t normally carry, yet the $1.00 books are not bookstore rejects.

From August 10 to 13th, the South Shore University Women’s Club has their annual used book sale, I think it’s the 37th edition so it’s almost as old as the McGill Book Fair. I’m not typing in the hours, but it’s at St. Barnabas Church, 95 Lorne in St, Lambert.

The Atwater Library is having a lawn book sale and BBQ on Wednesday August 17th from 10am to 3pm, outside the library at 1200 Atwater.

For the past two or three years, the Dorval Scouts have had a used book sale towards the end of August, no news yet on that one.

For years, the Thomas More Institute had a used book sale in late August or early September, but they dropped it a year or two agao, so I’m not hopeful that it will be back.

Then soon after the fall cluster of used book sales begins.

Of course, towards the end of August, the McGill students that didn’t leave in the spring will be moving, leaving a smaller smorgasbord of moving garbage. Not as significant as in the spring, one can still find interesting things.
Usually lots of furniture, but last August I found a couple of computers (that are getting rarer, as people increasingly do take old electronic junk to a recycling place).
