Passport to Prana – Yoga Card, 2010

I received an email about this program and it looks quite interesting if you’re interested in yoga and you would like to try out different classes.

You buy a card for 30.00 and this card entitles you to one free class at each of the yoga studios in the group. Of course, the purpose of the card is for you to find a class you like and hopefully you’ll stick with it – but it is a good and inexpensive way to try out which ones you may like. I think it would also be good for someone who is only staying in Montreal for a few weeks or a few months. There are 31 participating places.

Locations are all over the Montreal area and in Laval, with a few on the South Shore and the West Island.

The passport offers students a real taste of the yoga community and encourages them to find the studio and style that best suits them. Students are supported by our website which tracks their attendance and presents useful information about each studio including maps, and links to up-to-date schedules and announcements.

Pointe-à-Callière Free Grandparents/Grandkids Sundays

Intergenerational Sundays

A wonderful way for grandparents and grandchildren to spend some special time together:

Every Sunday, Pointe-à-Callière invites grandparents to visit the Museum along with their grandchildren. For the occasion, free admission is offered to grandparents (65 years and older, upon presentation of proper identification), as well as to grandchildren (under the age of 18). And at all times, on a grandparent’s or grandchild’s birthday, admission to the Museum is free for both when they come to the Museum together.

Grandparents and their grandchildren can spend some quality time together, enjoying the multimedia show above the archaeological remains and visiting the Where Montréal Was Born and Montréal Love Stories – The Cultural Connection exhibitions, as well as the current temporary exhibition.

Starting this coming Thursday (July 16, 2009), you can enjoy jazz with the Perry Pansieri Band.

What: The Perry Pansieri Band will perform every Thursday, starting July 16. Every other week, there will be a guest musician or singer.

Children Free on ATM Trains, July, Aug 2009

The commuter trains from the Agence metropolitaine de transport (ATM) are already free for children five years and under, but for the months of July and August, children from 6 to to 11 who are accompanied by an adult may also ride for free.

The ATM acknowledges that some parents may have already bought tickets for the upcoming two months and if that is the case, you can get a refund. For information, call 514-287-8726.

If you’re the sort who likes to wait until the last minute to decide how to spend your evening, La Vitrine is a website you might like. According to the website:

Bike & Roller blade rentals – great for families and visitors to Montreal too

If you don’t have your own bike or rollerblades to enjoy Montreal’s beautiful outdoors or if you’re visiting from out of town and would like to get outside and get some exercise, here’s a reasonable-cost solution: rent.

In Old Montreal, Ça Roule Montréal (Montreal On Wheels) offers you this option. They have regular bikes, tandem bikes, and even stroller bikes. If you rent blades, you also get the protective equipment. According to their site: "Included : helmet, lock, bike trail map, repair kit, full protective gear for Rollerblades."

You’d best check their grid for pricing, but prices vary depending on the day of the week, how long you want it and what time you’re getting it. There are half day deals that start at 2 pm. For example, a bike during a weekday would be 8.00 for the first hour and 8.00 for each added hour, but 20.00 flat for a half day, starting after 2. A refurbished bike would go for 15.00 for the half day.

Skates are 9.00 for the first hour any day, then 4.00 for each hour after on weekdays or 4.50 on weekends and holidays.

You can also rent for a flat 24 hours, 35.00 for a bike during a weekday, 28 for skates.

Great soccer – affordable price (Montreal Impact)

I love watching the Montreal Canadiens play hockey, but there’s no way I can afford decent tickets these days. I’ve long wanted to watch the Montreal Allouettes play football – but even if I could get hold of tickets, they’d be too pricey for me. But, there’s one great sport I can afford to watch and – as luck would have it – it’s one of my favourite sports: Soccer.

The Montreal Impact is a great soccer team that has stayed within reach of the "common folk." General admission tickets go for as little as 10.00 for adults and 5.00 for children. The prices go up according to section, of course, but only go as high as 40.00 for the gold seats.

You may also buy packages of four games or of eight.
