The newest one to provide Montreal bargains is SwarmJam.com. It operates a bit differently from the other daily deal sites we’ve mentioned here (Round Up of Montreal Group Buy Sites). I just received this information from Sarah and it’s as good as a Montreal bargain can get.

Chamber Music Without Borders presents Frederic Bednarz, violin, of the Molinari Quartet, and his wife Natsuki Hiratsuka, piano:

Schumann Sonata for violin and piano no.1 in A minor, op.105
Schumann Sonata for violin and piano no.2 in D minor, op.121

Described as ‘a stunning and marvelous violinist’ the young Canadian violinist Frédéric Bednarz regularly gives recitals throughout North Amercia, Central America and Europe. He has performed concerts in New York’s Carnegie Hall and Merkin Hall, in Boston, in Kansas City, in all major Canadian cities, in France, Italy and Poland.

A winner of many competitions including the prestigious Prix d’Europe, the Marseille International Competition and the Val Tidone International Competition, Mr. Bednarz was heard as soloist with the Ottawa and Montreal Chamber Orchestras, the Montreal Civic Orchestra, Ensemble America in New York, OSSIA, the Atlantic Symphony, The Longy Chamber Orchestra, Bach Festival Orchestra, ME.

His chamber music collaborations include appearences with Anthony Marwood, Richard Lester, Julius Baker, Oleh Krysa, Malcolm Lowe, and the Ying Quartet. Bednarz is regularly featured on radio broadcasts with CBC and NPR, and recorded works by Tchaikovski for the XXI Canadian Label, and Albany records.

It seems like these types of websites are getting popular; I have just learned about LivingSocial.com. Like yesterday’s posting about RedFlagDeals.com, LivingSocial.com is a site that emails you daily deals in Montreal, although you can also find deals in other Canadian cities as well.

Today’s deal is a stone massage at Club Physique for half the usual cost. That’s quite a deal, especially if it’s something you’ve been wanting to try but haven’t yet. It’s also a good way to give a gift you may not otherwise afford.

So, here is yet another Montreal bargain. Why not check it out?

Have you heard of RedFlagDeals.com? It’s a good site with lots of saving-type information, but there’s one feature in particular that is perfect for Montreal on the Cheap readers who are looking for bargains in Montreal.

Their Deal of the Day is a group discount offering something new every day. If you sign up, you get daily emails that tell you what is available, but you have to act fast because it’s only for the day.

For example, as I’m writing this now, the deal is for $19 for a $50 Voucher at Play It Again Sports – but there’s only 15 hours and some odd minutes left to buy it. Of course, there are rules and restrictions for the daily deals, but if you read and take note of them, you could come out way ahead.

Free Museum Admission: Montreal Museum Day, May 30/10

Every year, the “Museums without Boundaries” event provides free shuttles between the various participating museums. This year celebrates the 24th year that this program is in existence.

The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts is presenting an exhibition on the great musician, Miles Davis.

According to the Museum’s website:

With this exhibition, the Museum pays tribute to Miles Davis (1926-1991), one of the twentieth century’s greatest musicians. The multimedia retrospective (musical excerpts, film and documentary clips, drawings by Miles Davis; paintings by Jean-Michel Basquiat and Mati Klarwein; photographs by Annie Leibovitz and Irving Penn; costumes, musical instruments and scores lent by the Davis family, etc.) recalls the highlights of his life and career, including his memorable concerts in Montreal.
