This is Montreal, city of great music, great food and festivals – and we’ve hit upon Jazz Festival time.
June 25 to July 4 is this year’s Jazz fest where you can find lots of free activities to do if you don’t have the money to pay for the pricier concerts. Check out their free schedule and go have some fun.

Free Jazz Festival Concerts – July 5, 2009
And we’re back with more free concerts for you during the Montreal International Jazz Festival. For July 5:
11 A.M., repeat performances by The little school of jazz at 150 Ste-Catherine Street West – they’re back at 1:30 if you miss them at 11.
At noon, go on over to St. Catherine and Clarke to catch Bharath and his Rhythm Four (you can find them at the same place at 2 P.M and again at 4 P.M. as well) or St. Catherine and Jeanne Mance to see and hear L’orchestre des JazzKidz
at 1 P.M., La fanfare du Belgistan is performing at the Place des Arts esplanade and they repeat at 4:30.
Gadji-Gadjo is performing at the Place des Art esplanade at 2 P.M.
If you go over to Hydro-Québec Park, corner Clark and Sainte-Catherine, you’ll see L’Esprit de la Nouvelle-Orléans at 3 P.M. or you can go over to St. Catherine and Jeanne Mance to see Grand ensemble jazz de Saint-Eustache, also at 3.
At 4 P.M., at Complex Desjardins, Jazz pour emporter is playing.
The evening shows kick off at 7 P.M. when you must make a choice: Adrian Vedady Quartet at Place des Arts esplanade, Steve Strongman at the corner of President Kennedy and de Maisonneuve, The League of Extraordinary Country Gentlemen at Bleury and de Maisonneuve, or Rafaël Zaldivar Quintet at Clarke and St. Catherine. The Quintet will have a repeat performance at 9 P.M.
Not ready to stop yet? How about choosing between Bomba! at the Clark parking at 8 P.M. or Jesse Dee at St. Catherine and Jeanne Mance.
At 9 P.M. at Scene General Motors, there’s Patrick Watson or you can go to The Stomp All-Stars at Complex Desjardins (repeat performance at 11).
10 P.M. brings you Kalmunity at the Clarke parking
11 P.M. gives you John Roney / Jim Doxas Trio at 305 St. Catherine West.
Then, to wind up the night, at 11:59 P.M., you have to choose between

Noon brings you Sonny Larosa America’s Youngest Jazz Band at the corner of Sainte-Catherine and Jeanne-Mance
An hour later, at 1 P.M., you’ll find La fanfare du Belgistan at the Place des Arts esplinade.
Stay at the esplinade because at 2 P.M., Gadji-Gadjo
Fat Tuesday Brass returns at 3 P.M. at Hydro-Québec Park, corner Clark and Sainte-Catherine or you can go see Les pros du Camp de blues, also at 3, at the corner of Sainte-Catherine and Jeanne-Mance
At 4 P.M, you can find Combo Luc Beaugrand at the door of Complexe Desjardins
Then, at 6 P.M, the evening program starts with Larry Roy & Steve Kirby Group performing at Scène General Motors
That 1 Guy‘s show begins at Place des Arts epslinade at 7 P.M. or, you may choose to take in Chocolate Thunder performing at the corner of Président-Kennedy and De Maisonneuve (with a repeat performance at 11 P.M.), Antoine Dufour at the corner of De Bleury and De Maisonneuve, or Tyler Hornby at Hydro-Québec Park, corner Clark and Sainte-Catherine (repeating at 9 P.M.).
At 8 P.M, there’s Lily Frost and The Debonairs at the corner of Sainte-Catherine and Jeanne-Mance (repeat performance at 10 P.M.) or Zemog at Clark parking.
9 P.M. has a few more to choose from: Cordero at Complexe Desjardins doors (repeat performance at 11 P.M.), Astillero at Scène General Motors (repeat performance at 11 P.M.), and Bob Walsh at the corner of Président-Kennedy and De Maisonneuve (repeat performance at 11:59 at 305 Sainte-Catherine Street West).

Don’t take a break – there are more free shows coming. Today, you’ll have to make some tough choices:

At noon, you’ll find Jazztet Cégep Lionel-Groulx playing at the corner of Sainte-Catherine and Jeanne-Mance
Free Jazz Festival Concerts – June 30, 2009
Want to see free shows during the Jazz Festival? Well, you’re in luck.
We know about the free Stevie Wonder concert on June 30th, let’s see what else is free on June 30 and where:
Le Dixiband- on the Place des Arts esplanade at 5 P.M. If you miss them then, they’re playing again on July 4.
At 5 P.M., we also have the Festival Parade, which starts at the corner of Sainte-Catherine and Saint-Urbain (and does so every day during the Jazzfest).
Melanie Fiona performs at 7 P.M. at the corner of Président-Kennedy and De Maisonneuve
PapaGroove‘s show is at 8 P.M., at the door of the Complexe Desjardins
And of course, Stevie Wonder is at 9:30 P.M.
